Porthole mermaid

I love the dark intrigue of this particular gothic painting. Whilst the mermaid looks beautiful and serene, the truth is that she is just as strong as the ocean itself. She is sat on one side of the porthole window of a ship, she is knowing at the window and wants to be let on board. However, her power means that she has already cracked the glass, and the water is starting to drip through this crack. In no time at all, the crack will open and the water will start to pour through onto the boat. When I create this painting (the first in the series) I knew that I wanted it show that the ocean will have its way and that you should never underestimate its power.
