Mermaid and the moon
With this particular blue mermaid painting, I wanted to make sure that it was a nighttime image with lots of dark details, as well as light touches to bring contrast. The sky behind the mermaid features a number of stars and a moon sitting high the sky. Along with this there are warm touches within the sky, with the whole scene reflected in the water below. The mermaid herself has a certain coldness about her, her body is blue and her hair has light streaks which make it look as if it is glowing in the moonlight. I also added some silver touches to her tail too, as I wanted to make sure that the detail in the scales would stand out and catch your attention.
